To increase the agriculture productivity of the various crops - especially cereals, minor millets and pulses for food, nutrition and livelihood security in the region which will have direct impact on improving agriculture productivity for the households, who currently report household food availability between 3-9 months in a year.
Sir Dorabji Tata Trust (S.D.T.T.), Mumbai (Parivartan has initiated its partnership with S.D.T.T. in the year 2009 through 'SRI Launching Phase in Maharashtra'). Parivartan is implementing pilot project on agricultural innovations from December 2010.
> Strengthening the organizational base of farmers for learning, demonstration, resource mobilization & replication.
> Increasing access of small and marginal farmers to agricultural development information, technology & other resources.
> Increased agricultural productivity leading to increased food and nutritional security.
> Enhanced techno-organic farm management leading to sustainable agriculture practices.
7 villages in Chiplun block of Ratnagiri district
A pilot project spread over 18 months is expected to reach out to 4 seasons - Rabi, summer, Kharif & Rabi season.
1. Introduce improved package of practices with the intention of intensifying existing agricultural crops in the region. This would include:
a) Promoting intensification of agricultural crops specially cereals, minor millets, pulses and other agri. crops as per demand and need of farmers, areas and intensification models.
b) Introducing agri. intensification systems for prioritized crops - seed treatments, nutrition rich raised bed nurseries, organic land treatment and transplanting single sapling
c) Intercropping
d) Bringing about varietal change options for prioritized crops
e) Promoting bio-intensive integrated pest management (IPM)
f) Introducing LEISA techniques
2. In order to achieve project goal and objectives, following steps -
a) Community Mobilization, initiation of Farmers Farm School
b) Participatory selection of Village Resource Farmers (VRF) - Farmer Facilitators
c) Capacity Building of VRFs - Master Trainers
d) Participatory detail survey, soil analysis, farm land treatments, planning & implementation for Live Field Demonstrations - Improved Agricultural Practices, introducing AESA Techniques and other important interventions
e) Participatory implementation of Water & Farm Land Management
